General SIM Installation Notes
When installing a SIM card it is best practice to power the equipment off before handling or replacing the SIM. Listed below is a table for the APN which varies by carrier for our provider; you can think of the APN as a passcode for connecting to the carrier.
If you are unsure what provider is best for you, you can refer to the cellular coverage maps below. It is also recommended to do a survey of the signal strength at the precise location you plan to install beforehand, as there are many factors that can impact signal strength even within a single location, such as dense walls or tree lines. You can use a smart phone for basic signal strength tests, or more specialized cellular network scanners for more in depth analysis.

Recommended Cellular Signal Strength
The most common term used between our hardware to measure signal strength is RSSI. RSSI stands for Received Signal Strength Indicator, which is a measurement of the strength of a wireless signal received by a device. RSSI values are expressed in negative decibels (dBm), and a higher number indicates a better signal. For example, an RSSI closer to 0 is stronger, while an RSSI closer to -100 is weaker. You can view the RSSI in most stations web portals by navigating to the cellular networking portion. Refer to the chart below for general guidelines on signal strength.

Installing SIM Cards in a Station

My Station or Router isn't Reading the SIM
In some instances you may need to reseat the SIM card for your station if it is being read incorrectly. You can check this by navigating cellular options in the web portal to verify whether the SIM ICCID field is populated. To reseat the SIM, simply power the station off, and remove it and then place it back in the correct orientation as indicated by the notch or in the user manual.
Installing SIM Cards in a Gateway or Router
To access the router you will need to remove the gateway chassis.
From there, you can access the SIM from the router. Our updated routers should be able to automatically detect the APN from your SIM, but if they do not for any reason you can refer to the APN chart above, or reach out to technical support for further assistance.
