Preliminary Networking Troubleshooting
You can easily determine whether your station has been disconnected from the network by:
- checking the station's status in EV OS- if it's Not In Service, your station is disconnected.
- directly scanning the QR code on the station. When a station is disconnected, you will see the following via the mobile web view:
General Troubleshooting
Initial Networking
The process of networking your station varies by model and manufacturer. Stations networked cellularly are typically configured correctly out of the box, while stations networked via Wi-Fi will need a few settings changed to connect to existing networks. You can find more details on the specific networking capabilities & steps for your station from our documentation library here.
For stations not networked via ethernet you will need to take signal obstruction or interference into account. For example, cellular stations may perform as intended when mounted on a pedestal in front of parking space- but suffer from network drop offs when mounted to a concrete or brick wall nearby. Best practice would be to measure signal strength and consistency at the exact point of installation before hand.
Issues With Existing Installation
If you have an existing installation that is experiencing network downtime, the first step is the most obvious in this case; turn it off and back on again. For cellular stations you can just power the unit off and back on, but for stations networked using external hardware (Gateways, existing Wi-Fi, etc) you may also need to reboot those items as well.
Once rebooted, double check the status of the station after 3-5 minutes to allow for a full reboot. If the issue persists, double check there have been no changes in your local networking, and verify you are able to use the network from your own device where applicable.
Cellular
There are a few reasons why your cellular station may have issues connecting. For starters, it's worth verifying the cellular coverage for your area, as well as confirming the APN configured for your station matches your installed SIM. You can take a look at our SIM Quick Start Guide article here for more details.
Wi-Fi
If you are connecting to an existing network, you will likely need to adjust your stations Wi-Fi settings to match that of your local network. You can find details on how to adjust those settings in your stations user manual found here, or you can take a look at our articles here.
Ethernet
Ethernet connections have less room for error, so the two main things you would want to check first would be ensuring the ethernet connection is valid, and checking your firewall. You can test whether your network connection should have any problems communicating to our server by loading this link while connected to the same point in the network as your station. If it returns with Failed, you likely have something blocking necessary data, such as a firewall.
Please make sure your firewall is configured with the following rules:
- IP: 75.2.36.243, Port: 443
IP: 99.83.209.160, Port: 443
IP: 44.226.177.247, Port 21 and 30000? 30009 (for
firmware updates)
