If you’ve enabled "Show on Map" for your charging site but it’s not appearing on platforms like the Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC), the reason likely lies in your site’s access type and how data is shared with roaming networks.
How Charging Sites Are Shared
Most public charging maps, including AFDC, rely on roaming networks to gather station data. These networks use a standard called OCPI (Open Charge Point Interface) to share station details, such as location, availability, and pricing.
The Role of Site Access Type
In our system, your site's access type determines whether it’s shared with roaming networks:
-
Public – Available to all EV drivers. These sites are shared with roaming partners and appear on public maps.
-
Restricted Access – Available only to specific users (e.g., employees, fleet vehicles). These sites are still shared with roaming partners and will appear on roaming networks.
-
Residential – Private, home-based chargers. These are not shared with roaming networks.
How “Show on Map” Works
Enabling "Show on Map" means your site will appear within our system, making it visible to users on our platform. However, this does not override the site’s access type when sharing data with roaming networks.
If a residential site has "Show on Map" enabled:
-
It appears on our map for internal users.
-
It does not appear on roaming networks or AFDC.
This setup ensures your charging stations are visible where they need to be while maintaining appropriate access control.
