Historically, integrating charging stations with credit card processing involved a multi-step process:
- Pricing Setup: Pricing information was sent from EV OS to the EVSE (charging stations) over OCPP.
- Charging Control: Our system managed the charging session, including start and stop commands.
- Noodoe Session Fees: Calculated by EV OS and processed separately.
- Billing: The EVSE firmware handled billing and payment processing.
While convenient, this process introduced several points of failures:
- Harder to detect problems since there is an extra system (EVSE firmware) in the path of control.
- Reconciling the actual billed amount vs. EV OS's estimated session price is very time-consuming.
- Not possible to split revenue immediately or refund processed payments on the spot.
- Tax calculations are either absent or incorrect due to discrepancies.
With direct Payter integration, we've streamlined this process by incorporating the Payter credit card reader into EV OS.
Now, it's cloud to cloud: we control both charging and processing without needing to relay information between systems.
Key Benefits of Direct Integration
- Comprehensive Control Over the Charging Cycle: By managing the entire charging process—from initiation to payment—we reduce the likelihood of errors and ensure a seamless user experience.
- Streamlined Commissioning Process: The credit card reader can be commissioned through our intuitive Installer Panel, the same process of commissioning charging stations. For details about how credit card readers and stations are commissioned on EV OS, please take a look at the guide here.
- Automatic Tax Calculation: Taxes are automatically calculated during the transaction, ensuring accurate tax application without manual intervention.
- Synchronized Data: Data across MyPayter and the EV OS dashboard are now synchronized, providing real-time access to consistent information and enhancing operational efficiency.
- Customizable Display: We have full control over the information displayed on the Payter credit card reader. This flexibility allows for easy customization of the layout, wording, or content, enabling us to tailor the charging experience to user preferences.
