Setting up and managing taxes in EV OS is key to ensuring smooth operations for clients and compliance with local tax regulations. Here's what you need to know to support clients in properly managing taxes within EV OS.
Setting Up the Tax Account
Tax account refers to the account of the party who is responsible for managing taxes from the charging revenue. When the tax account is set to the merchant account, taxes are transferred to the client.
Conversely, when the tax account is set to EV OS provider, taxes are kept in the account of the EV OS provider. During the payback process (when the client revenue is manually transferred to the client's account), the tax amount will be withheld in the EV OS provider's account.
If the client hasn’t set up their Automatic Revenue Transfer, direct them to this article.
Permission for Viewing and Editing Tax Account Settings
It's important to note that only users with the CPO Management - View permission can view the tax account settings section. Additionally, only users with the CPO Management - Edit permission can edit this section. Please ensure that NO CPO Management permissions are granted to our clients.
Enabling Indirect Tax Calculation
Indirect taxes, such as excise tax and sales tax, are taxes that are calculated directly based on the jurisdiction of the charging site. These taxes are added to the total charge for the service provided.
By enabling indirect tax calculation, EV OS will automatically apply the correct tax rates according to the site location. This ensures that the taxes are calculated accurately and in compliance with local tax laws.
Note: The tax rate is provided by Avalara, a 3rd party service provider. If the client has concerns about the exact tax rates, contact the PMs for further discussion.
Permissions for Editing Indirect Tax Calculation Settings
Only users with Site Directory - Admin permission are authorized to edit the settings in the Indirect Tax Calculation section.
Responsibilities of the Tax Account Holder
The client is ultimately responsible for managing and ensuring the accuracy of their tax filings. While EV OS calculates the taxes, it is the client’s responsibility to ensure that taxes are reported and paid to the appropriate authorities.
This includes ensuring that all tax rates are accurate and up-to-date and that tax filings are done within the required deadlines.
